Propose an event
AMICAL supports member-organized events on topics that fall within the scope of our mission and current grant goals, including topics such as:
- Library and technology leadership
- Information and digital literacies
- Digital liberal arts (digital pedagogy/scholarship in the liberal arts environment)
- Online teaching
- Library and information services
- Curricular resources
We encourage events that:
- Highlight local practices while encouraging collaboration, and collective knowledge sharing and problem solving, across member institutions.
- Incorporate perspectives across institutions and professional roles.
- Are highly participatory: discussion forums, workshops, peer-to-peer consultations, and other interactive formats are preferred over lecture-presentations.
Support offered
AMICAL staff provides logistical support for events we support, including managing the meeting platform, announcing the event to members, and handling any costs that may arise. We can also co-facilitate the event with you, or suggest other members who can do so.
If you are leading a consortial group or initiative, we’re happy to help you find training for facilitating participatory and inclusive events, providing funding for the training if needed. If you are interested in such training, contact AMICAL staff.
Propose an online event
Our online events are most commonly suggested and organized by AMICAL’s committees or interest groups. If your event idea is related to one of these groups, get in touch with the group’s chair or convener to see if they’d like to co-organize it with you.
Once you have a firm idea for an online event, fill in the Online Event Checklist as best you can and share it with AMICAL staff. We’ll follow up with you to develop the event.

We are currently revising our more detailed planning guidelines and will share them as soon as we’re done.
