AMICAL Peer Advising Week – Request an advising session

This fall, the AMICAL Consortium is launching its first Peer Advising Week (Monday 30 November – Thursday 3 December 2026), an event organized by the Peer Knowledge Exchange & Mentoring Working Group.

The event will provide a dedicated time to discuss an issue or challenge you are currently facing with peers from across the consortium through online peer-to-peer advising sessions.

You can request a 30-minute session with an Advisor of your choice to:

• Troubleshoot challenges you are facing in your work

• Explore how peers at other institutions approach similar challenges or concerns

• Discover practical solutions and ideas

• Expand your professional network with colleagues from other international liberal arts institutions

How to request a meeting

Eligibility: Any AMICAL faculty or staff member working in libraries, academic technology and pedagogy can take part as an Advisee.

First, review the “Roster of Advisors” to find a colleague with the expertise you’re looking for.

The list is organized by primary area of expertise:

• Library – Leadership

• Library – Instruction / information literacy

• Library – Public services (other than instruction)

• Library – Technical services

• Library – Technology

• Teaching (incl. CTL / faculty development & instructional design)

Keep an eye on each Advisor’s “Availability” to make sure you have at least one common time when you can meet. Sessions will take place on Zoom, Monday to Thursday, starting at 10:00, 11:00, 12:00 or 13:00 Paris time.

Then, click “Request meeting” on that Advisor’s row. The form opens with the Advisor already selected. You’ll choose the times when you can meet them and describe the topics or questions you’d like to discuss, so your Advisor can come prepared.

Your request will be shared with the Advisor and, once they confirm that they can meet with you about that topic, we’ll send a calendar invite to both of you. If the Advisor can’t meet with you, we’ll let you know so you can request someone else.

Assignments are handled on a first-come, first-served basis, so if you wish to request a meeting, please do as soon as possible! The last day you can request a meeting is 19 November.

If you’re not sure an Advisor has exactly the right expertise, feel free to request a meeting anyway, letting the Advisor decide whether they can help based on your description of the issue you’d like to discuss.

If you can’t find an Advisor who fits your challenge, reply to this email to tell us what you need. We’ll try to recruit someone with that expertise.

Each request is to one Advisor. You can submit multiple requests, but only for different topics, unless a requested Advisor couldn’t meet with you.
