Event series
The DLA Programs Committee organizes events on digital tools and methods with presentations and workshops by invited guests, and interactive discussions with AMICAL colleagues.
Events are announced on AMICAL Connect and listed on our site. If you would like to suggest a topic you’d like to see addressed, or speakers/facilitators we might invite, send us an email.
For the 2022–2023 series, we’ll be focusing on offering training in digital tools, including assignments and rubrics.
Najla Jarkas, AMICAL’s Mellon Fellow for Digital Liberal Arts, will be organizing substantial workshops on digital tools and how to integrate them into classwork. Topics and tools will include:
- Storytelling and digital timelines with TimelineJS (13 & 27 October 2022)
- Computer-assisted textual analysis with Voyant Tools, Antconc, and CLiC (16 & 30 Nov 2022)
- Digitally mapping literary spaces with Google My Maps, StoryMapJS, and Palladio (12 & 26 Jan 2023)
- Blogging & social media (WordPress, Google Sites & Twitter) (TBD 2023)
We also plan to invite other workshop facilitators to offer additional workshops. Potential topics might include:
- Social Annotation tools
- Spyral Notebook (Voyant)
- Podcasting
- Digital Cultural Heritage
- Digital Mapping of Texts
- Open-source repositories (GitHub)
Please go ahead and suggest other topics and/or speakers on our Interest Group on Connect.
