Projects & Activities

Through the initiative of AMICAL's working groups, or through partnership with other organizations, AMICAL is engaging in a number of projects and activities to benefit members' institutions, staffs, and students.

Automated resource sharing and cataloging

Through a partnership with OCLC, the RESPOND (Resource Sharing Project for Network Discovery) pilot project has been created to introduce AMICAL members to OCLC resource sharing and cataloging services. Over 600,000 items from AMICAL libraries will be visible via WorldCat, including many materials not previously found there. The pilot also connects AMICAL members to OCLC's worldwide automated network for resource sharing, including the major libraries and document suppliers in North America.

Consortial access to e-resources

The E-resources Working Group identifies resources of common interest to AMICAL members and has concluded consortial arrangements for databases available from Columbia University Press. A number of other electronic resources are currently being considered as well.

Professional development opportunities

AMICAL members have discounted access to online training from a number of quality sources. They also benefit from presentations and interaction at the annual conferences, including major workshops administered by NITLE. Other opportunities and resources are being planned and will be announced on AMICALnet as they become available.
