In mid-2009 several separate initiatives at the American University in Cairo began to intersect. The AUC campus was preparing for a Year of Research, which placed an emphasis on raising the visibility of AUC’s scholarly accomplishments as the university settled into its New Cairo campus. An interest arose in making electronic theses available online, and the Rare Books and Special Collections Library recognized an urgent need to manage their rapidly growing collections of digitized and born-digital special collections. This presentation will discuss how the Digital Archive and Research Repository (DAR) was established through a series of intra-organizational collaborative efforts, and demonstrate how the resulting repository program will continue to encourage campus departments to work together.
