After taking a short tour around local digital archives and repositories, we take a broader view on Institutional Repositories in general. Giving examples of the latest developments, we suggest a new paradigm: libraries should offer services rather than full-fledged systems. These services can then be easily and cheaply integrated into portals, fancy GUIs, web pages and personal profiles of researchers.
