This presentation highlights the role of Open Access, focusing on current development, policies and politics, and good practices. Open Access removes price barriers and permission barriers and provides free availability and unrestricted use of digital resources. There is a long history behind this effort and it is appropriate that we take a look at the Budapest Open Access Initiative as an important part of this movement.
This theoretical overview will be followed by a more practical focus on Open Access in practice in developing countries and at AUN in particular. How will this movement affect the development of sustainable access to digital information and what are the drawbacks of the North South information flow? Examples of Open Access resources will be discussed and distributed.
