Several years ago, the Art History Department at The American University of Paris faced the difficult challenge of preserving their unique collection of over 50,000 slides, primarily used for teaching and research. This presentation will describe the conception and scope of the project as a whole, as well as the active-learning and discipline-specific components. The role of the librarian as consultant/advisor is foregrounded as a pivotal piece of the project. Although this is the story of only one such digitization initiative, it is hoped that it might inform our discussions of the many ways in which librarians can provide research and development expertise in support of cross-disciplinary faculty initiatives.
